Palin's disdain for knowledge, education, experience and contemplative leadership

Sarah Palin proved in last nights debate that she is telegenic, folksy, can regurgitate stock answers, and is has an extremely limited grasp of the issues.

Joe Biden proved that he too is telegenic, folksy, has extensive experience in dealing with national and international issues, and has a firm grasp on the issues.

Thanks to a friendly debate format and an absentee moderator Sarah Palin exceeded expectations by not having a complete breakdown on stage and running off like her hair was on fire. But make no mistake, Joe Biden won the debate on the issues. The early polls seem to agree.

But ultimately, Sarah Palin's debate experience is a failure because for most people she still did not prove that she is worthy or capable of being the Vice President of the United States. If they were to win, she would be a heartbeat away from the presidency, behind a man who is in poor health already.

After a debate, it is sad to see the TV pundits give so little critical analysis of the actual words of the candidates. They focus on the fluff and don't look at each answer to see if the candidate is able to clearly articulate an intelligent thought. That was especially true last night. Many of Palin's answers were convoluted, repetitive and simplistic. And that doesn't count the times she wouldn't even answer the question that was posed to her.

But, as John Aravosis and the New York Times note, the issues are too large and the time is too critical for a wildcard like Palin and a wildman like McCain. So, the focus is still on the judgement of John McCain in choosing Sarah Palin.

Sarah Palin revels in being unqualified

Obama has noted this before, as has Jon Stewart - the fact that Republican politicians admire stupidity and ignorance. They wear their lack of education, their incompetence, their failure as a badge of honor. And it's certainly an American tradition, having disdain for intellectuals. But when push comes to shove, do you really want bubba, or bubba with lipstick, in charge of your 401k and your life savings? At some point America has got to get over its love affair with stupid. Or the mistakes of the last eight years, when we elected stupid to an art form, will continue to repeat themselves. Here's tomorrow's editorial in the
New York Times about the debate:

"In the end, the debate did not change the essential truth of Ms. Palin’s candidacy: she can learn her talking points and make a good impression under controlled circumstances. But Mr. McCain made a wildly irresponsible choice when he picked someone with far too little experience or evident knowledge for the post. That choice shattered the image that Mr. McCain created for himself as the tempered, seasoned, experienced man of principle and judgment. Picking Ms. Palin was either an act of incredible cynicism or appallingly bad judgment.

The ensuing weeks cemented those images in our minds. Ms. Palin initially injected some energy into the McCain campaign, especially among members of the right-wing Republican base, who never liked or
trusted the Arizona senator — and still do not. Then, she began lurching from one embarrassing public appearance to another, culminating in her shocking performance in interviews with Katie Couric. In those exchanges, Ms. Palin was inarticulate and shockingly unable to answer the most basic questions about government policy and even her own political philosophy.

The Republicans have tried to present the negative reaction to Ms. Palin as a matter of liberal elites sneering at someone who does not share their privileged backgrounds. That is a distraction. The problem with Ms. Palin’s candidacy, which she underscored in her appearance at the debate on Thursday night, is not that she didn’t attend a fancy school or go backpacking in Europe after college. It is her disdain for knowledge, education, experience and contemplative leadership."

Interviewers like Katie couric missed valuable opportunities to get to know Sarah and to let the American people judge. Sarah had handlers, but these wise people KNEW Sarah would be given a 'pop' quiz and not a real interview.

When you interview such a person, obviously you don't do so with a feather duster for a microphone. But if you're really after the measure of the man (so to speak), you don't look to nail her on foreign policy stuff that no reasonable person would expect her to know as an Alaskan governor. Would you do that with Bill Clinton in 1992? Would you flunk him if he didn't have as firm a grasp? One looking for a better sense would ask about past experiences, and allow the audience to glean from the candidate's past judgment what that candidate might do in the future. Interviews have become an absurd exercise in careerist gotcha moments -- they serve more of a political purpose than they do give voters an opportunity to flesh out the views of a candidate.

Katie blew and the AMERICAN people know it.

It is apparent that with liberals Palin won't win even when she won BIG....Biden blew it on many levels, but the loss is just Joe being Joe. Biden made 10 FACTUAL ERRORS and 14 total with some that could be argued....man doesn't even know the constitution and he has 36 years of experience and a plagarizing career to back him up.....

If Obama had been 'vetted' properly by the press and asked real questions about real connections in his life it is apparent he would not be where he is today. The media wants this man elected...corrupt politicians in states like Ohio will do anything, even fix elections to get this man elected and ignorant liberal observers will ignore FACTS and swallow fallacy and fiction in the glory of the dream of the man they idolize and follow...sad....pathetic....and ignorance is bliss.....to bad it will be at the expense of the USA Obama despises if he wins......

If we were Obama and doing like he voted on Iraq we would be waving the white flag of surrender long before the game is over.......thankfully....there is long way to go.....

The biggest LAUGH and lunacy of this whole campaign is the OBVIOUS---the other 'elephant in the room'.......

EVERY single argument against Palin is the argument that should be stating about their own incompetent, inexperienced, candidate. Obama has done nothing, has zero EXECUTIVE experience, and has only written books to tell us the story he wants us to hear....none of which is the truth......

143 days in Senate does NOT a President make.......

the question about a 'heartbeat away from the presidency' was a question Biden KNEW was coing and it was shameful.....interesting to note that he recognized that same argument can be used against his own candidate for President...Biden is a much more scarier prospect.

what debate were you watching???? Biden a grasp of the issues? he doesn't even know the constitution...he was wrong 14 times!

I love watching Palin Derangement Syndrome as liberals become unhinged over Palin.......

"You mean like Joe Biden who has been in the senate for 36 years and still doesnt know which article of the contitution establishes the legislative body?

You mean like Joe Biden who thinks that the first article of the constitution establishes the executive branch?

You mean like Joe Biden who thinks that the constitution doesn’t establish the Vice President as the leader of the Senate? (I’ll give you a hint, theres a reason the Speaker of the House and the Vice President sit behind the President during the State of the Union and not the Speaker and Senate Majority Leader or the Speaker and the President Pro Tempore. For that matter, there is a reason for the term President Pro Tempore — “pro tem” meaning “for the time being”)

You mean like Joe Biden who thinks that the constitution mandates gay marriage?

You mean like Joe Biden who thinks that FDR was president and spoke to the nation on TV in 1929?

You mean like Joe Biden who thinks that we are spending more in Iraq in one month than we do in Afghanistan in 6 years? A figure that is off by 2000 percent?

You mean like Joe Biden who thinks that we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon?

You mean like Joe Biden who says every Republican but McCain supported the nuclear test ban treaty? when in fact McCain was one of 50 Republican senators who voted against it?

You mean Joe Biden who supported the Mullahs rise to power in Iran?

You mean Joe Biden who opposed Reagans policies toward the Soviet Union?

You mean Joe Biden who opposed the Gulf War? and the surge?

Or perhaps you mean like Barack Obama who thinks there are 60 states, 57 of which he believes he has visited?

You mean like Barack Obama who thinks that an asthma attack is not an emergent situation and only requires a breathylizer?

You mean like Barack Obama who thinks his uncle liberated Auchwitz?

You mean like Barack Obama who thinks 10,000 people died in a tornado in Kansas?

You mean like Barack Obama who thinks his own conception was inspired by the march in Sema Alabama which happened 4 years after his birth?

You mean like Barack Obama who thinks a nuclear armed Iran is not a serious threat?

You mean like Barack Obama who thinks Kennedy averted the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 by talking to Kruschev in 1961?

You mean like Barack Obama who thinks we should send our arabic translators to Afghanistan?

You mean like Obama who thinks Chavez came to power while Bush was president?

SOUNDS LIKE YOUR CANDIDATE IS JUST THE MAN FOR THE JOB YOU WANT.....

I know YOU don't read the comments, but I am hoping some of your Obamots DO have a brain......or we aren't in kansas anymore.....

You obviously either completely ignore the facts whenever it suits you, or you are very ill-informed. Did you not realize the Biden made at least 14 mistakes in the debate last night? Did you not look at the polls and see that most people thought Palin won the debate? Even members of the democratic party said that although they disagreed with Palin they thought she did better than expected in the debates. I don't know what planet you're on....

Part of being a well-informed, intelligent person is reading things other than the Daily Kos and the New York Times. You may be liberal, and not support the views of conservatives, but it is important to at least know what people in the conservative party are saying. How can you claim to know what you're talking about when you don't read any acclaimed and legitimate sources? Try to sound intelligent and instead of making insults at those whose beliefs bother you or with those you don't agree with, gain a knowledge of what you're talking about. Insults are like a whiny third grader who, when upset, has nothing else to say. It's whiny, trashy, and annoying. There are other ways to get your point across, you know.

Guess what? You said Palin was undereducated? Then why is she able to smoke everyone? Why does she have the ability to quote Reagan off of the top of her head? Why has she been able to hold her own without even being around Washington politicians? Why does Hialry Clinton herself praise her abilities? you're only made because you don't want to admit that a conservative is more qualified than a democrat. Get over yourself.

How could Sarah Palin have a limited grasp on things? The reason that Sarah Palin hardly answered the questions that were given to her was because Joe Biden HARDKY GAVE HER A CHANCE TO ANSWER THE QUESTIONS! I have never seen such a stubborn man in my whole entire life! Didn't you notice that Joe Biden didn't even answer the questions the right way? Sarah Palin at least made an attempt to give RELIABLE ANSWERS. Biden seemed like he knew what questions were going to be asked during the debate.
You also say that Sarah Palin had a lack of knowledge, education, experience, and comtemplative leadership in your blog. I will ahve to disagree with you on that. Plain wouldn't be the governor of Alaska if she had no knowledge or education. You are obviously blind.Obama and Biden have been lying to America while Obama has no experience, and you think that Palin has no experience? She is not inexperienced and is able to smoke Obama anyday!
