The whimsy of John McCain

More from Steve Benen at The Washington Monthly:

The fact that Sarah Palin shouldn't be one heartbeat from leading the free world is obvious, but beside the point. The problem here is that John McCain's judgment is so comically flawed, the prospect of his presidency is starting to become quite literally frightening. Even cursory vetting would have turned up some of these basic details of Palin's record. Indeed, her career in public office is so brief, this should have been extremely easy for even incompetent researchers. McCain, one assumes, would have demanded extensive background information before making a decision of this magnitude. Except, he didn't.

So, what are we left with here?

John McCain met Sarah Palin in person once, for 15 minutes. Months later, he then talked to her on the phone for five minutes. Four days later, without a thorough background check, he invited her to be vice presidential nominee of the Republican Party.

Sensible people of sound mind and character simply don't do things like this. Leaders don't do things like this. Those fundamentally unsuited for the presidency do things like this.

Worst. VP. Pick. Ever.

Do the research on prior candidates. Clinton met with Gore 1 time before as did other candidates either by phone or in person.

The 'vetting rhetoric' and 'experience rhetoric' is ludicrous with the current Democratic Presidental Nominee having NO EXECUTIVE EXPERIENCE. SCARY??? Not McCain's VP. Obama fits all the arguments coming from the Democrats and Liberal media. He will be the most UNQUALIFIED candidate in over 100 years!

He hmmd and uhhnmnd his way through an attack on Palin's experience by calling her a former 'Mayor' of a small town with only a $9 mill budget. She is a current extremely popular Governor of the LARGEST state with an $11 mill budget and SURPLUS (Nepalitano came in with a surplus and now has millions of dollars deficit hmmmm) He said he ran a 'campaign'. SNICKER, SNICKER, SNICKER.....a campaign? with aides to help him? with gurus to back him? He can't speak with a written speech.

Palin may not have been 'vetted' the way people would like, but she was vetted. She is as much a Maverick as Obama and without nearly as much to have to worry about in the future as Obama.

When it comes to experience Palin trumps Obama.

I'd like to see your sourcing for the Clinton/Gore vetting reference. But remember, Gore had about 16 years of experience in the House and Senate before Clinton selected him for VP. He was known, experienced, and more fully vetted over those years.
A fairer comparison to Obama's experience is Kennedy.
And the assertion that Palin has more experience than Obama is laughable. I will be exploring this more fully in a post on this site.
The largest state in size, one of the smallest in population.
A surplus in a lighly populated state with massive amounts of oil, gas and minerals? What a surprise.
Janet Napolitano is dealing with budget issues (as are almost every other state, county, city and small town) because this Republican economy is in the tank and still falling.
I forgot that part where Sarah Palin runs the entire state of Alaska by herself without any aides or gurus to help her.
